Project Scope

When Rio Tinto celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2006, they employed Impact Communications to provide event management services for a formal dinner. Their 500 guests included key stakeholders, long serving current and former employees and international clients.

Our Action

Impact Communications identified the venue, appropriate for the formal dinner planned and with the flexibility to cater for as few as 250 and as many as 750 guests.

Impact developed a theme based on the era when Rio Tinto first opened its doors, 1966; including a sixties style menu. We also organised showcased classic cars from each decade since the sixties, presented a historic photo display and coordinated actors dressed in period fashion to distribute a CD featuring music of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Impact arranged for every detail to be in theme for the evening from briefing a floral artist producing visually dramatic table centre pieces to managing all the publications including invitations, menus and name tags.
Entertainment was also selected to reflect the sixties era with roving magicians, nationally renowned tenors and a live dance band.

Impact prepared the seating arrangements. This required meticulous planning to ensure a senior Rio Tinto person was seated at each table and that protocol was observed for seating current and former Premiers, prominent mining personalities, senior government ministers and bureaucrats and important customers from China and Japan.

Impact’s welcome to guests on arrival and distribution of special gift boxes for each couple upon departure ensured all guests had a complete experience from start to finish.

The Impact

The Rio Tinto 40th Anniversary Dinner was another success for Impact Communications. We received very favourable feedback from guests on the night and were highly commended by the CEO. Impact proudly continues to manage events on Rio Tinto’s behalf.
